On the final Sunday of June, Rough and Ready gathers to celebrate Secession Days (now combined with our annual Chili Cook-off).

The day begins with the Firefighter's Breakfast, sponsored by our Firefighter's Assoc., and continues with the traditional Saga of Rough and Ready musical melodrama. Meanwhile, Chili Chefs from around the area begin cooking their special concoctions. Formerly a sanctioned event, the town decided in 2004 to "secede" from the International Chili Society and do it Rough and Ready Style, with Rough and Ready Rules! By the afternoon, guests can purchase $5 Tasting Kits and begin tasting, voting for their favorite along with the Judges.
