Description: Location: Eloquent Light Photography Workshops

July 8 - 11, 2012 ABOUT THE WORKSHOP The Old West is peopled with legends, but our West, the twenty-first-century West, is full of real people living and working under a glorious sky — a sky that attracts people to New Mexico in particular. New Mexican faces reflect both the intimate beauty and the rough grandeur of this enchanted land. This workshop is about photographing people who make their living ranching, training horses, raising cattle. These are not models pretending to be ranchers, ramblers, and renegades — they're the real deal. Because we at Eloquent Light have long-time friendships with them, you will be able to have unique experiences — from capturing roping practice at a local arena to photographing spectacular sunsets at a historic hacienda. This is a shooting-intensive workshop, with award-winning photographer Craig Varjabedian providing hands-on, one-on-one guidance in the field as needed. While based in Santa Fe, the workshop takes you out of the city so you can shoot environmental portraits using natural light as well as using reflectors and translucent panels to enhance your portraits. Images you might see in your viewfinder include cowboys and cowgirls, historic adobe haciendas, mountain men and ranchers, desert sunsets, and western movie sets. WHO SHOULD ATTEND All photographers are welcome. This is a shooting-intensive photography workshop. You should be prepared to carry your own gear and be comfortable with and capable of walking and light hiking on sandy soil and rocky terrain. You should have a good understanding of your camera, digital or film, in order to get the most out of this workshop. WHAT TO BRING Lots of enthusiasm for making pictures. Your digital camera with lenses, a tripod and filters. A laptop computer to download your images to for safekeeping. (We will provide a complete list of necessary gear before the workshop begins.)
