Description: | From Earth Day Pensacola Website: Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. The first Earth Day was focused on the United States. In 1990, an organization launched by Denis Hayes, who was the original national coordinator in 1970, took it international and organized events in 141 nations. Earth Day is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year.
Pensacola has been celebrating Earth Day for decades. Although we have gone through many transitions throughout the years, we have been constant in that as a society we have a responsibility not only to ourselves, but to future generations to protect, preserve, and conserve our natural resources not only for the human species, but all species.
