Description:

From Celebration of the Arts Website:

Where can you find a perfect ocean view from the handsome terraced lawn beside a lovely harbor, with the Sheepscot Bay beyond? Where local artists and crafters display and sell their paintings, quilted textiles, warm wooden bowls, intricate baskets, shimmering jewelry and glass works? Where can you stroll among the booths and listen to sea chanteys sung by musicians like Alison Freeman, or a jazz harmonica being played by a local octogenarian? Catch a whiff of freshly baked brownies and cookies to be enjoyed with a cup of punch? These sights, sounds, and flavors are free for your pleasure!

The answer? At Georgetown's biennial Celebration of the Arts, to be held again this July at The Mooring B&B. The concentration of artistic talent in Georgetown is impressive and its heady blend will delight all your senses. Visual arts will include painting, photography, sculpture, and printmaking, and you can savor the aroma of scented soaps and admire woven wreaths made from local vegetation at this perfect Maine coast venue. Sigh.

Mary Leonard was a favorite local artist in whose ink drawings and colorful paintings of local scenes can be found at Robinhood Marina and in other local sites. Mary is the artist who will be honored at this year's Celebration, with examples of her work featured in a special display. Georgetown has also been the home, in summer and year 'round, for world-renowned artists such as Dahlov Ipcar, Marguerite and William Zorach, Marsden Hartley, Clarence White, F. Holland Day, Gaston Lachaise and Jason Schoener, and several of their works will be displayed at the exhibit.

The Youth Pavilion will provide an opportunity for young artists to create and display their work. Each is invited to bring an item previously made to share and/or to create a new one right on the spot with materials provided. This will be a delightful experience for everyone in the family.

Recipe for a Perfect Maine Summer Day: Combine a trip to the Celebration of the Arts with a visit to the beach at Reid State Park. Follow with your choice of local dining options that include fine dining inside at the Osprey or picnic tables outside the Georgetown Country Store, or harborside at the Five Islands Wharf lobster shack. Truly memorable.

Note: Light/moderate rain will not cancel this event though heavy rain will.
